This morning we did our first training walk around the city. We started the day with 9 fellow NYC Camino Pilgrims and walked from south street seaport around the tip of manhattan through battery park and up the west side to Chelsea pier.
At Chelsea Pier we said good day to Joan and Karen and headed east towards Union Square. Thayer and Jessica broke away from us along the way to continue their day. At this point, Rosanne, Damian and I decide it was time to take a rest (we were up to about 8 miles at this point) and find some Spanish tapas for lunch.
El Cid provided the perfect atmosphere for us to rest and fuel up so we can continue our journey. We finished our lunch and continued to REI to get some more gear Rosanne and I were missing for our caminos. After a brief shopping session Damian, Rosanne and I stopped by the La Churreria for some churros and cafe con leche. A snack well earned.
After saying good night to Rosanne, Damian and I continued downtown to City Hall, over the Brooklyn Bridge and to Atlantic avenue to catch the R train home.
All this took us about 8 hours, and roughly 17 miles - a typical day in a life of a Camino Pilgrim. This wasn't so bad. I A great time with the group and aside from being in a great deal of pain tomorrow, I think I can do this every day of my Camino.
Thanks to Damian, Rosanne, Jessica, Karen, Thayer, Paula, and Joan for coming our and sharing our training walk with us.
See you next week.
Nina
